Infertility and Failure

Infertility and Feeling Like a Failure

Infertility can feel like it's full of fails. This test failed. This cycle failed. This treatment didn't work. Again.

When you're in the middle of it, the word "failed" gets used so often by doctors, by medical charts, by your own inner voice. It can start to feel personal. All the disappointment, all the setbacks, all the "we're sorry, it didn't work" phone calls can quietly start to convince you that it's not just the cycle that failed.

It's you.

It's not true. You are not a failure. No seriously, probably should read that again. You. Are. Not. A. Failure.

But it can feel that way sometimes.

In this episode, Jesse and Doug dig into the feelings of failure that infertility can stir up. Why does infertility make us feel like failures when we haven't actually done anything wrong? Where do those feelings come from, and why are they so loud? What do you actually do with them? And how do you find your way back to yourself when the weight of all those "fails" starts to define how you see yourself?

You are more than your diagnosis. You are more than your results. And you are absolutely not a failure.
